Internet Browsing

Note that anonymity and censorship circumvention are different goals.

  • Tor Browser: Trusted standard for anonymous browsing, standard safety levels should be enough for normal use but disable Javascript for special cases. Some sites block Tor nodes from connecting, but occasionally there are unblocked nodes if you keep switching.
    • Snowflake: Browser plugin that helps people living in censored countries access TOR.
  • Project X: State-of-the-Art censorship circumvention proxy protocol. Requires self-hosting so your identity and connection will be visible to your service provider. Oracle Cloud provides free servers you can host this on. There’s also an official Setup Script.

Online Privacy

You should use Tor for anonimity purposes. This is focused on things like stopping ad trackers in day-to-day browsing.

  • Privacy Badger: Browser plugin that stops common ad trackers.
  • uBlock Origin: Best adblocker.
  • Adnausium: If you really hate ads and the people who host them.
  • If you’re still using Chrome switch to Firefox lol.

Windows De-Telemetry

  • Search up online for a tutorial to activate Windows 10/11 without a Microsoft account.
  • O&O ShutUp10++: Debloat and spyware removal for Windows 10 and 11. Heavily recommended for all new Windows computers.
  • Simplewall: Blocks outgoing traffic from all programs unless you whitelist the program. For those who want to make sure nothing talks to an external server without your approval. Just turn on the filters and you’ll get a popup every time a program tries to make a connection.

Disk Storage

  • Veracrypt: File/Disk Encryption with optional hidden volume for plausible deniability.
  • Eraser: Windows tool for secure and unrecoverable file deletion.
  • Shred: Ubuntu tool for secure and unrecoverabl file deletion.
