I LOVE SLOP

Some people believe in this strange concept called “quality of life”. I feel like I’d rather spend my time on art, gamedev, and writing tho. Here’s how I live very healthily with the lowest effort possible as a working adult.

Lifestyle

  • Sleep at regular time that’s before 12am. Get 8+ hours. (Turning off lights past 9pm helps a lot)
  • Daily 30min aerobic exercise. Running is convenient because you can do it anywhere. To save time, run during your lunch break before eating because your lunch is about to get very fast.
  • Be happy and unstressed (idk how to do that don’t ask me)

Nutrition

Diversity is good -> Slop is diversity manifested -> Slop is good.

Screw meal-prepping. Every container used is a container you have to wash. Cooking also takes hours end-to-end. Meal-prepping can also result in lop-sided nutrition due to lack of diversity. Thankfully, you can eat healthier than meal-preppers at a lower time and (sometimes) monetary cost by following the steps below.

Calories: Caloric restriction is demonstrated to increase health and lifespan across the animal kingdom. I typically aim for ~80% of my baseline calories as given by random websites. Ignore this if you want to build muscles.

Caloric Filler: Use a complete-nutrition powder for most of your boring calories. Some popular providers are Huel and Jimmy Joy. With full regular discounts you can get ~$7 per day (at 2000kcal daily) with Huel. It’s fast, effortless, clean, portable to work, and covers macro-balance so you don’t have to think too much about it.

Diversity: Nutrition powder have pre-designed macro and micro nutrient balances. However, they do lack some of the healthy compounds you can get from a diverse range of fruits and vegetables. I tend to avoid protein here because protein is often times time-consuming and also nutrition powders typically come PACKED with them. The following can be used to supplement your slop:

  • Low-fat Greek yogurt: Amazingly versatile and good for gut microbiome. Can be mixed with a variety of other foods for nutritional diversity. Common ones I do include chia seeds, fruits, ground flaxseed, guacamole, salsa, even your meal powder. Add honey for taste if needed.
  • Chia seeds: Good fiber and healthy fat. Mixable with your nutrition powder.
  • Frozen berries: Easily purchased and indefinitely stored. Can be put in yogurt, water, or just eaten plainly. Frozen fruits are actually fresher than many “fresh” fruits due to being flash-frozen right after picking. Berries are one of the healthiest things you can eat.
  • Vinegar: Dilute with water for drinking. Makes life less boring and helps with hunger
  • Psyllium Husk: Free fiber for gut microbiome, hunger, etc. Mix in with your slops.
  • Canned sardines in Extra-Virgin Olive Oil/Water: Good for protein and fish is very good for your health. Sardines are very low in heavy metals compared to other fishes.
  • Salsa: Divinely given gift upon earth. Very healthy and low-calories, spammable.
  • Kimchi: A bit hard to incorporate, but very healthy and low-calories.
  • Assorted nuts: Watch for calories and avoid fried ones (check ingredients for oil), but generally very healthy and tasty.
  • Leafy Greens: Eat with salsa/kimchi/vinegar. Very filling, healthy, low-calories.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Drink small amounts or mix in with slop if diet too low in fat.
